Founder of Caring at Heart

The heart behind the home care

It started with a song, and a grandmother's hand.

Growing up, my grandmother would take me to sing at the local nursing home. I was always struck by how such a small act of kindness could bring so much joy and light to someone's day. Those early experiences planted a deep seed in my heart — a passion for caring for the elderly and a strong desire to become their advocate.

While working in healthcare, I formed a special bond with a patient named Ms. Irene, who was living with Parkinson's disease. Months after she was discharged, her son returned and asked if I would leave my job to become her full-time caregiver. Though nervous, I felt a strong calling to care for her. For several years, I had the privilege of doing just that.

Having lost her ability to speak, Ms. Irene communicated through a keyboard her family purchased at my request. She would type her thoughts, and I would write letters to her loved ones on her behalf.

“That simple keyboard became her voice.

Every Friday night, she insisted on her hot toddy before bed, and each afternoon she made sure we were settled in the living room in time to watch our favorite show, Judging Amy. Those quiet, beautiful moments created memories I still cherish today.

Caring for Ms. Irene with dignity and grace until the end of her life was one of the greatest honors of my life. She became more than a patient — she became my friend and part of my family. Her unwavering faith in me, combined with the lessons I learned from my grandmother, inspired me to found Caring at Heart in 2008.

Today, I am incredibly grateful to lead a company that provides more than just care. We create meaningful connections, preserve dignity, and build a workplace where our caregivers feel valued, supported, and proud of the work they do every single day.
